Libyan delegation visits recycling fair in Germany
Libya’s Local (Tripoli) Government Deputy Minister, Mustafa Elturki, headed a delegation of Libyan members of the Environmental Offices of the central government and of several municipalities to visit the IFAT fair in Munich, one of the world’s leading trade fairs for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management.
The visit was organised by GIZ as part of its support on solid waste management in Libya and long-term visions towards a circular economy.
The Libyan delegation was welcomed on the first day at the fair by the German RETech Partnership – Recycling and Waste Management Made in Germany. The following days were dedicated to examining and discussing the new technologies in the fields of monitoring polluting factors, collecting, compacting and separating waste, as well as recycling possibilities for the different materials.
The visit comes as part of the activities related to Solid Waste Management, supported by the European Union and Germany’s BMZ-funded project “Decentralisation as a contribution to stabilization in Libya / Support to Municipalities (SML)”. It is implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Libyan Ministry of Government Local and 30 partner municipalities.
