Mitiga airport continues to upgrade projects – including the new departure hall, new luggage conveyor belts, and perimeter fences

Libya’s Airports Authority announced last week that it is continuing the implementation of its various upgrade projects to Mitiga airport through its contracted companies.

The projects are intended to increase capacity and provide the better services to travellers at the small makeshift airport. It will be recalled that the small Mitiga airport was forced into service as Tripoli’s main airport after militia fighting destroyed Tripoli International Airport.

The Airports Authority said the ongoing projects are:

• The project of linking the old departure hall to the new departure hall
• The project to connect the current terminal with the new departure hall.
• The expansion of the arrival hall and the internal flight halls.
• Supplying and installing a system of conveyor belts for passenger baggage to the departure hall.
• The project for maintaining the fence and blocking security breaches, which aims to protect the runway from breaches, and which will contribute to raising the airport’s safety procedures.
