4th Banking Sector Development Forum to be held in Tripoli in October 2022

The 4th Banking Sector Development Forum will be held in Tripoli this coming October, organisers the Sector Development Forum (SDF) informed Libya Herald yesterday.

SDF said their activities had now resumed after the enforced hiatus following the Covid Pandemic.

It also revealed that the former Planning Minister, Taher Jehamy, will chair the 4th Edition of the Annual Banking Sector Development Forum.

The topics expected to be discussed at October’s forum include:

  • The role of the organizing institutions in the development of electronic payment.
  • Development of collection and public payments through electronic payment.
  • The role of electronic payment in combating fraud and money laundering.
  • The readiness of communications and infrastructure in Libya for financial technology.
  • Cybersecurity and safety standards for digital financial transactions.
  • The role of technologies in the effectiveness of cross-border payments.


Taher Jehamy held many positions, the most important of which were Governor of the Central Bank of Libya between 1997 and 2002, and Libya’s Ambassador to China. He also held the position of Chancellor of the University of Benghazi between 2008 and 2010, and Minister of Planning between 2005 and 2008 and Secretary of the Planning Council between 2002 and 2005, Minister of Planning, Economy and Trade between 1994 and 1997, and most recently he was Minister of Planning between 2016 and 2020.
