Several Mitiga airport development projects started

Libya’s Airports Authority announced Thursday that several development projects at Tripoli’s Mitiga airport had started recently.
Mitiga airport, Tripoli’s secondary and smaller airport located to the east of the capital, is the city’s only functioning airport after militia fighting in 2014 destroyed Tripoli International Airport located to the south of the capital.
The development projects included:
- The project linking and connecting the newly established passenger terminal with the old terminal.
- The expansion and development project for the arrival hall for international flights and the baggage sorting area.
- The paving of the parking area for passenger shuttle buses in front of the departure gates.
- A project to make changes to accommodate travellers with special needs.
The Airports Authority stated that these projects are considered of importance to the airport in order to raise its operational efficiency, increase its absorptive capacity and improve the services provided at it.
It will be recalled that an EU flight ban means that there are no direct EU based flights to or from Libyan airports.
